What data does UCI Spark use?
Spark uses data from the Canvas Learning Management System and other institutional data. For more about the collection and use of online course data, contact the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning at (949) 824-7761.
How is the data being used?
UCI Spark uses anonymized aggregate data to display course activity analytics and to recommend campus services ("sparks") to an individual. Individual data is never shared with instructors, advisors, or other students.
What is collected, and how is it stored?
Spark collects user-entered information and logging information (e.g. page visits). Data is stored securely and used to recommend tailored sparks. It may also support service operations (monitoring performance, end-user support), internal planning and reporting (aggregated data and trends), and research (aggregated data sets for academic purposes, subject to IRB approval).
What can researchers access?
Researchers can request data access or extracts via the Student Data Governance process.
